Improved surface functionalities are desired for a constantly broader spectrum of materials and technolo-gy developments. There is thus a growing need in new combinations of tailored surface treatments and coatings when optimal surface properties can no longer be achieved with a single process. A “material dependent/surface property”-driven approach needs to be established in industrial surface treatments. In this context, the workshop aims at highlighting the great variety of available state–of-the-art electrochemical deposition/functionalizing processes. The presentations are ranging from chemical vapor deposition to different new developments in more classical electrochemical deposition/oxidation processes. The workshop gives a scientific outlook and is organized by Empa, the new CTI-sponsored National Topical Network “Innovative Surfaces” and the Swiss Society for Surface Treatment (SGO-SST) as part of the 50 year anniversary symposium of the Swiss Foundation for Surface Treatments (SSO-FSTS). This organization supports industrial formation and development in electrodeposition, anodizing and zinc galvanizing.
